Park Hyang-Kyung

Jung Eun-Hee
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the residential mobility patterns of individuals with psychiatric disabilities who are living in the community. The research employed a mixed-methods study. The quantitative analysis involved survey data from 315 participants, while the qualitative analysis utilized in-depth interviews with 11 participants to examine their residential movement paths. The quantitative findings revealed that individuals with psychiatric disabilities residing in non-independent housing frequently transitioned between family homes and hospitals. On the other hand, those in independent living housing commonly moved through psychiatric residential rehabilitation. Different patterns by region and age group were found. The qualitative analysis identified two distinct paths to independent living housing: transitioning through psychiatric residential rehabilitation or moving through their original families emphasizing the significant role of transitional housing and group homes. Policy and practical implications are discussed based on these results.
